Beside encouraging its own community members to live their best lives, NomadLife tries to spread that message as far as possible. We enjoy regularly donating our time within the community around our community in as many ways as possible. Whether it's clean up from a tropical storm, a Sunday morning beach clean up, or spending time with children in nearby programs, you'll see us out and about trying to give back in any way that we can.
Building Homes in Nicaragua
As global citizens, we are invested in giving back to the communities that we have been welcomed into. Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. 43% of the population lives in rural areas with 68% living on little more than $1USD per day. 46.2% of the population lives below the poverty line, as well as NomadLife's first home. With a shortage of close to a million homes across the country (one of the highest housing deficits in Central America), there is a drastic need to improve over 50% of existing houses in the country.
Additionally, many existing houses are built with dangerous, discarded materials that provide little to no protection from weather or thieves. Substandard housing conditions have been associated with an increase in infectious diseases, chronic illnesses, injuries, poor nutrition, and mental disorders. When a family in need receives a new home, or improvements to their old home, their quality of life increases substantially.
