Building Homes in Nicaragua
As global citizens, we are invested in giving back to the communities that we have been welcomed into. Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. 43% of the population lives in rural areas with 68% living on little more than $1USD per day. 46.2% of the population lives below the poverty line. With a shortage of close to a million homes across the country (one of the highest housing deficits in Central America), there is a drastic need to improve over 50% of existing houses in the country.
Additionally, many existing houses are built with dangerous, discarded materials that provide little to no protection from weather or thieves. Substandard housing conditions have been associated with an increase in infectious diseases, chronic illnesses, injuries, poor nutrition, and mental disorders. When a family in need receives a new home, or improvements to their old home, their quality of life increases substantially.
NomadLife will be donating 10% of all proceeds from our Nicaraguan Co-working and Co-living space to building new homes for those living in extreme poverty. We are teaming up with Life Before Work Travel to make this project a reality.
